Preconstruction Services
The Porter Company’s commitment to the highest quality of production starts long before construction even begins. We bring years of experience in preconstruction services, including design review, budgeting, estimating, scheduling, and major equipment purchasing. During the design development stage, we work closely with the project team- the mechanical engineer, general contractor, architect, and others- in order to help plan the most efficient and cost-effective approach to the mechanical portion of the job.

BIM Services
The Porter Company understands the importance of coordination among the different trades on a project. Without proper coordination, project schedules, and construction, projects are adversely affected. We have the tools and personnel to assist with the mechanical design and ensure proper coordination.
Our CAD (Computer Aided Design) Department utilizes 2D and 3D modeling software to produce coordination drawings. The same software can be used to generate detailed spool drawings for fabrication purposes. The BIM process allows us to prefabricate a large portion of our work. Less time on the jobsite equals less risk.
In conjunction with our 3D capabilities, we have become very educated and proficient in the process. We have been able to use our skills and knowledge as an asset during the process on numerous projects. We have been exposed to fully integrated processes and less collaborative scaled down versions. Whatever the case may be, we can adapt on any level to meet the client’s expectations.
ASME Fabrication and Repair Services
The Porter Company has received Certificates of Authorization from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) to hold “U” and “R” stamps. Our pressure vessel/welding specialists fabricate, repair, and alter pressure vessels or repair boilers under a strict and documented quality control system.
The U Stamp is our authorization to manufacture pressure vessels, both at our 23,000 square foot fabrication facility and in the field, in accordance with the applicable rules of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII Division 1. The National Board R Stamp authorizes The Porter Co. to perform metallic repairs and/or alterations of pressure vessels at our fabrication shop or in the field. Experienced engineering and manufacturing personnel performing ASME Code U Stamped and NB R Stamped design and fabrication services utilizes processes to reduce project risk and achieve the lowest total cost of ownership for our customers.
All ASME manufacturers and National Board stamp holders have an Authorized Inspector (AI), who is the authority of code acceptability. Every ASME and NB related design and fabrication activity engaged by the Porter Co. is monitored and individually audited on each project by the AI. The AI is provided by an independent authorized agency, in the case of The Porter Co, TUV Rheinland. The AI has access to all drawings, calculations, specifications, procedures, records, test results, codes, and any other documentation required to perform their duties. They have free access to The Porter Co.‘s facilities and may designate hold points anywhere in the fabrication process.
Through the process of qualifying for the U and R Stamps, the Porter Co. developed an intensive written quality control program. Our quality control manual is followed by both our in-house AWS certified welding inspectors and our dedicated Authorized Inspector. The manual also includes written procedures utilized for our sub-contracted nondestructive examination, inclusive of visual inspection, radiographic examination, ultrasonic testing, and magnetic particle. We have our own qualified welding procedures in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW as well as orbital welding for manufacturing vessels and piping systems made from carbon, stainless steel, and other alloys handled by our team of certified welders.
The features of our U and R Stamp include complete traceability of raw materials, certification of all welders, and work/tests being witnessed by the Authorized Inspector. The benefits obtained are unsurpassed quality assurance, guarantee all design meets ASME code, and a complete manufacturer’s data report for each completed pressure vessel filed with the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors in Columbus, Ohio.
